MICRODERMABRASION

Microdermabrasion is a non-chemical technique that results in partial or complete removal of the outer layer of the skin and stimulates the growth of new skin cells. It is carried out with the help of a wand/pen-like device that emits aluminium oxide crystals onto the skin surface to cause light abrasion. Then the dead cells and the crystals are sucked away from the skin. The depth of penetration can vary depending on the force of crystal emission and suction. No chemicals are used during microdermabrasion sessions, which is a great advantage to those patients whose skin is prone to irritation from certain chemical agents. People with any skin type and color can benefit from this treatment.

To achieve best results, a patient needs up to 12 sessions two or three weeks apart; each session can last for about 2 hour depending on the size of treated area. In case of severe cases of stretch marks, you may also need maintenance procedures for maximum effect. Besides, the dermatologist will recommend you a certain skincare routine to take care of your body after the treatment.

When deciding on this way to get rid of stretch marks, keep in mind that microdermabrasion removes the outer skin layer, the epidermis; as for stretch marks, they occur mainly in the middle skin layer, the dermis, when the connective tissue gets damaged. Yet the epidermis also suffers while striae are formed as it gets thinner and stretched. Healing the epidermis with microdermabrasion will greatly improve the overall appearance of stretch marks, though it may probably not remove them completely.
