STRETCH MARKS PREVENTION

If you know that you are prone to stretch marks, you may consider the following steps to prevent them in future:

  • Try to keep you weight within the healthy range for your age and be careful not to gain lots of extra pounds rapidly. If you are pregnant, follow your obstetrician’s guidelines for gradual weight gain and get her advice about a supporting bandage.
  • Moisturize your skin well with creams and lotions containing vitamins A, C, and E. Massage mixtures with essential oils are also very helpful. Do not let your skin dry out, or it will be more susceptible to tearing when stretched.

  • Drink at least eight glasses of water to hydrate your skin and maintain its resilience.
  • Make sure you diet includes foods high in silica (beets, bell peppers, soybeans, leafy green vegetables, brown rice) to support collagen production, foods high in vitamins C and E, foods high in fatty acids (fish oils, vegetable oils), and whole grains.
